Our Story
There’s a story behind G Square Woodwork (GSW).
The founder, Stephen Grose, has always been creative and connected to nature. He spent several decades writing, mostly content for websites and business. He has also been pet sitting for 4 decades.
After too many years behind a desk, he decided to learn the craft of woodworking and enrolled in a Cabinetry & Woodworking program at Georgian College. He followed up with the Carpentry program. Achieving high honours in both, now able to work on building houses, inside and out. After receiving both his college certificates he wanted to build creative pieces and work on his craftsmanship.
The part of woodworking he enjoys is creating beautiful, artisan, hand crafted, quality pieces. They are pragmatic and made to last a lifetime. He noticed the waste in the industry. All the off cuts, scraps and discarded pieces. This wood, with the right amount of love and patience can be made into something beautiful and lasting, diverting the wood from landfill.
The co-founder and junior partner, Bob Gardner, participates on a small scale, and is a full time primary school teacher. Bob and Stephen met almost 50 years ago and have remained long time friends. When he learned about the woodworking, he wanted to learn and participate. He too had a passion for wood and has slowly been learning the skill. He helps when possible and contributes with the development of the business. Since both their last names start with a G, if you square them (a woodworking term), G Square Woodwork, was the perfect business name, thus, it was born.
